Itinerary included visiting two major lakes, exploring colorful canyons, sleeping in a nomadic yurt camp, watching an eagle hunting show, and a thrilling 4×4 mountain trip to natural hot springs.
Salam! Your 5-day adventure begins this morning as we leave Bishkek and drive toward the beautiful mountains of central Kyrgyzstan. Our first stop is the ancient Burana Tower, an 11th-century minaret and an important historical monument from the old Silk Road city of Balasagun. You can climb to the top for panoramic views of the valley and explore the nearby stone carvings called balbals.
After the visit, we continue deeper into the mountains, crossing the spectacular Kalmak-Ashuu Pass at more than 3,400 meters above sea level. The road offers breathtaking views of green jailoos, grazing horses, and dramatic mountain scenery. By afternoon, we arrive at the stunning Song-Kul Lake, one of the most famous alpine lakes in Kyrgyzstan.
Located at 3,016 meters, Song-Kul is surrounded by endless pastures, nomadic yurts, and peaceful mountain landscapes. You can relax by the lakeshore, take a short walk, or experience local nomadic life with shepherd families. Tonight, enjoy a traditional homemade dinner and stay overnight in a cozy yurt camp under the stars.
Wake up surrounded by the peaceful beauty of Song-Kul Lake. After breakfast, you may have time to walk along the lakeshore, photograph nomadic life, or simply enjoy the fresh mountain air before we continue our journey toward Issyk-Kul Lake.
Today’s drive takes us through beautiful mountain valleys and along scenic roads toward the south shore of Issyk-Kul. Along the way, enjoy views of rivers, open landscapes, and traditional villages where local life still follows ancient nomadic traditions.
By afternoon, we arrive in the village of Bokonbaevo, famous for preserving traditional Kyrgyz culture. Here, we will meet a local berkutchi (eagle hunter), who will introduce you to the ancient tradition of hunting with golden eagles. During the demonstration, you will learn how these powerful birds are trained and used for hunting in the mountains.
After the show, enjoy a warm dinner and relax at a comfortable guesthouse or yurt camp
near the lake.
Today is filled with some of the most beautiful natural landscapes around Issyk-Kul Lake.
After breakfast, our first stop is the famous Skazka Canyon (“Fairytale Canyon”), known for its colorful red and orange sandstone formations shaped by wind and erosion over thousands of years. The canyon looks like a magical landscape filled with castles, dragons, and unusual rock sculptures.
Next, we continue to the beautiful Barskoon Gorge, surrounded by pine forests and
mountain rivers. Here, we take a short walk to see the picturesque Barskoon Waterfall,
hidden among the trees high in the mountains.
In the afternoon, we visit the stunning Jeti-Oguz Gorge, one of the most iconic places in
Kyrgyzstan. You will see the famous red rock formations called the Seven Bulls and the
legendary Broken Heart Rock. The gorge is surrounded by green forests, rivers, and
dramatic mountain scenery.
By evening, we arrive in Karakol, a charming mountain town known for its multicultural
history and beautiful location near the Tian Shan Mountains. Tonight, enjoy dinner at a local
restaurant and rest at your hotel or guesthouse.
Today is dedicated to one of the most famous mountain valleys in Kyrgyzstan — Altyn-Arashan, which means “Golden Spa.” After breakfast, we drive by powerful Soviet-style 4×4 truck through the rough mountain road leading deep into the valley. The journey itself is an adventure, crossing rivers, rocky paths, and forest trails.
Located at around 2,600 meters above sea level, Altyn-Arashan is a breathtaking alpine valley surrounded by pine forests and snow-capped peaks. Upon arrival, you will have free time to walk around the valley, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and admire the dramatic scenery.
The highlight of the day is relaxing in the famous natural hot springs of Altyn-Arashan. The
warm mineral water is perfect after days of travel and mountain adventures. After spending
time in the valley, we return by 4×4 vehicle back to Karakol for dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, we begin our journey back to Bishkek along the scenic north shore of
Issyk-Kul Lake. Before leaving Karakol, we will visit two famous landmarks of the town: the
unique Dungan Mosque, built in Chinese style without using nails, and the beautiful
wooden Holy Trinity Orthodox Church.
As we continue driving along the lake, enjoy panoramic views of Issyk-Kul and the surrounding mountains. Along the way, we stop at the open-air petroglyph museum in Cholpon-Ata, where you can see ancient stone carvings created by early nomadic civilizations.
In the afternoon, we drive through the dramatic Boom Gorge and return to Bishkek in the evening, marking the end of your unforgettable 5-day journey through Kyrgyzstan’s mountains, lakes, canyons, and nomadic culture.
